When Glenn Ellis, Sr. enrolled in the pre-med program at the University
of Pennsylvania more than three decades ago, it was just the first step
in his lifelong commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of others.
Today, in addition to self-publishing Which Doctor?: What You Need to
Know to be Healthy, an informative, easy-to-read holistic health handbook,
the Alabama native has earned a well-deserved reputation as an internationally
respected health educator and complementary medicine consultant.
After majoring in Health Systems Management at UPenn’s prestigious
Ivy League undergraduate institution, Ellis continued his studies at
the International College of Bio-Dynamics and the Atlantic Academy of
Classical Homeopathy. Recently, he was named Executive Editor of BlackDoctor.org,
the definitive health website for African Americans.
Over the years, Ellis has honed a unique brand of healthcare. He conducts
lectures and seminars for a wide range of corporations, associations
and community groups. His writings have been published under the auspices
of the esteemed European Science Foundation and in the Journal of Philosophy
and Ethics in the Ukraine. He also is a member of the Review Staff of
the American Journal of Public Health. At one point, Ellis was a Borough
Councilman in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, serving as Chair of the Public Safety
Committee.
Ellis maintains a busy lecture schedule in the U.S. and abroad, where
he highlights health disparities and medical ethics. In addition to
offering individualized health regimens to hundreds of clients, Ellis
speaks at churches and community centers and is a popular and well
sought-after university guest lecturer.
Ellis also publishes a weekly web advice column for EURweb.com, the
premier online source for urban “infotainment”. EURweb.com
attracts 1.2 million visitors each month, and the site’s daily
e-mailed newsletter has a database of 72,000 subscribers (including a
large celebrity list), which reaches over 1.4 million readers. His syndicated
health columns, published weekly in African American newspapers nationwide,
also are read by millions. Ellis is a contributor to Real Health Magazine,
and has been asked to contribute a monthly column to The National Medical
Association’s new, as yet unnamed, magazine.
For 10 years, health-conscious Philadelphians tuned into his weekly radio
broadcast, a lively talk show where Ellis could be relied upon to dispense
practical medical advice. But it was Ellis’ breadth of knowledge,
easy sense of humor and great taste in music that made each broadcast
memorable. Ellis’ unique broadcasts are now heard in 53 U.S. markets
and 53 countries around the world through weekly health commentaries
on Lee Bailey’s Radioscope, broadcast via the Armed Forces Radio
Network. Radio stations carrying the program include RadioOne, Clear
Channel, Citadel and Cumulus. Ellis still remains a favorite on WURD-AM,
WIP-AM, and WHAT-AM talk radio in Philadelphia.
Regarded as an expert in a specialized field, Ellis serves on the Institutional
Review Board and the Ethics Committee of Mercy-Fitzgerald, as well as
Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia. Recently, he became a member of the Institutional
Review Board of Thomas Jefferson Health Systems. In these roles, Ellis
is actively involved in the disparities education and protection of rights,
particularly, for African Americans involved in clinical trials. He also
is a member of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU)
and has conducted Grand Rounds Lectures on African American Perspectives
on Healthcare. A father of two, Ellis recently declined an invitation
to present for Global Forum for Bioethics in Research in Karachi, Pakistan
due to the hazardous conditions in that part of the world. Instead, Ellis
will deliver lecture in May at the Symposium on Bioethics in Ukraine’s
capital city, Kiev.
For years, Ellis has created and marketed his own line of herbal supplements.
Currently, he is President of Strategies for Well-Being, LLC, a health
education and consulting company headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
where he consults with national corporate clients on promoting and providing
health education for consumers and providers.
Writer, educator, lecturer, consultant, commentator and public official,
Ellis’ career has been dedicated to helping others maintain good
health. But, perhaps he is best known as a down-to-earth practitioner
who encourages everyone to, “Live the best life possible!”
